Privacy policy

1.Who is responsible

The data controller is Emi RO, the creator of SongGuess. You can write to us any time at [email protected].

2.What data we use

Your account (optional): your email address, display name and password. The password is only stored hashed (scrypt), so nobody can read it.

Your player profile: an anonymous ID saved in your browser, with your progress, scores, level, achievements, liked songs, friends and settings.

Leaderboards: your display name and scores are shown publicly on the leaderboards.

TikTok and Twitch LIVEs: when you comment in a SongGuess LIVE, the platform sends us your public name and the message. We keep your display name and points for the LIVE's leaderboards, plus your answer to the end-of-LIVE poll. Messages aren't saved, but they may appear briefly in the server logs.

Reports: songs you report as wrong.

Technical data: your IP address, used only in memory for a short time to stop abuse (we don't store it in the database), and the server's technical logs.

3.Cookies and local storage

We only use strictly necessary cookies: one that keeps you logged in (sg_session, 30 days) and one for your chosen language. Your browser's local storage keeps your player profile and settings (for example the volume).

We don't use advertising or analytics cookies and don't track you on other sites, so there's no consent banner.

4.Why we use it

To run the game (scores, leaderboards, accounts, friends, LIVEs), to send account confirmation and password reset emails, to prevent abuse and to moderate content.

The legal basis is providing the service you asked for, and our legitimate interest in keeping it safe and fair.

5.Third-party services

The 30-second audio previews and covers come from Deezer and Apple iTunes, and videos from YouTube (youtube-nocookie.com). When you play a preview or see a cover, your browser connects to their servers, which can see your IP address.

Emails are sent through an email provider. The site runs on our own servers behind a DDoS protection service, which our traffic passes through.

We don't sell data or use it for advertising.

6.How long we keep it

Your account and profile, until you delete them. You can delete them yourself at any time from Profile → "Delete account": your account, progress, friends, leaderboard places, TikTok photo and LIVE points are removed for good. Daily LIVE leaderboards are kept for 60 days; login sessions expire automatically after 30 days.

7.Your rights

Under the GDPR you can ask to access, correct or delete your data, restrict or object to its use, and get a copy of it. Write to [email protected] and we'll answer within 30 days.

You can also complain to the Romanian data protection authority (ANSPDCP, dataprotection.ro).

8.Age

You must be at least 16 to create an account. Anyone can play without one.

9.Changes

If we change this policy, we update the date above. For important changes we'll tell you on the site.
